Cod e-DNA
One
recently emerging and promising complimentary approach to address fish biomass
in the ocean is the use of environmental DNA from water samples.
Recent
studies have shown good correlations between trawl data and eDNA measurements
of demersal fish along Greenland.
The overall
objective of the project is to develop and validate an eDNA sampling and
analysis protocol for the detection and quantification of Atlantic Cod biomass
on the Faroe Bank.
The end
goal is to better understand of the spatial and temporal distribution of cod
biomass on the Faroe bank to directly address recent management policies for
closing the fishery.
